Santo Mattinale

“Santo Mattinale” is the resulting short film from a two weeks residency period in Aliano, Basilicata, during and shortly after the festival called ‘La Luna e i Calanchi’ who invited me to create a piece.
First of all I wanted to feel and somehow translate the words and the works of Carlo Levi, a painter, doctor and writer who was confined in Aliano during fascist Italy as a ‘dangerous intellectual’. Second, I wanted to experience (again) the kind of epiphany you feel when in silence with nature. I felt like a wild animal sometimes there and ‘Santo Mattinale’ is the result of all that longing and loneliness with nature. On an interesting note, I experimented with sound design, location sound and music and for the first time for me sound and images setting an unprecedented organic whole.
